I asked him how to find a CranioSacral Massage Therapist that’s the best fit for me and this was his advice on questions to ask:

How long have you been practicing CranioSacral Therapy?

When finding a CranioSacral therapist, you’ll want to know how long they have been studying CranioSacral.  This is important because when working with major issues like chronic pain, traumatic brain injury and other head trauma or spinal cord injuries, you’ll want to make sure you’re working with someone with experience in this area.  Dan has been doing this work for four years.  In this time, he’s worked with numerous cases of traumatic brain injury, head injuries and spinal cord injuries along with chronic pain.

What type of CranioSacral Therapy training have you done?  What branches of the CranioSacral sector have you been trained in?

You’ll want to find someone who has been specifically trained in the area that you need.  Working with a specialist in TBI’s, spinal cord injuries and other head trauma is important so that you can get your specific needs met in order to attain your recovery goals.

If you are looking for assistance with trauma, then Somatic Emotional Release is the choice. If you are looking for assistance with migraines, TMJ, concussions and vertigo, and whiplash you are looking for some who has completed CranioSacral Therapy 1 & 2

What level of trainings have you achieved?

The highest level in the Upledger System is reached when you complete the CST level 1&2 courses along with the SER(Somatic Emotional Release) trainings. Upon, completion of all those trainings along with a practical and formal test you then become a Certified CranioSacral therapist. I believe that it is important that the practitioner has a knowledge of the CranioSacral techniques that are learned through the two courses of study.

Which method of CranioSacral Therapy were you trained in?

The Upledger Method is the preferred choice.  Upledger believes in connecting with the inner physican or higher self of the individual and holding a space with the client where they can feel safe and have the freedom to release and transform their emotions when they feel ready and willing to do so with the practitioner. He also believed in the sending in the ability of sending a direction of energy to the specific area where there may be a stagnation or blockage of energy due to a disconnection between the body, mind, and spirit. This blockage or what he may term as being an energy cyst which is essentially inhibiting the proper flow of the cerebral spinal fluid that protects the brain and the spinal cord from trauma and provides nutrients to the nervous system tissue. When the flow is in a balanced state along with the Cranio rhythm, the body then begins to perform its natural healing state.
